Butts 4 Mutts Picnic Fundraiser June 7, 2008

Posted By Connie  Wuebben on  05/12/2008 @ 10:50 pm

Backyard Bash BBQ Headquarters and Barkville Pet Boutique will present the Second Annual Butts 4 Mutts BBQ Picnic Fundraiser for the Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter on June 7th, 2008 from 11am – 3pm. Families are encouraged to attend and bring their dogs. The event will be held outside Backyard Bash at 6264 Lewis St., Ste 100, Parkville, MO 64152, in the Parkville Commons Shopping Center at the intersection of Highway 9 and NW 64th Street.

A BBQ lunch of Kansas City-style pulled pork sandwiches, made by Backyard Bash owner, Jay Mathiesen, will be served with chips and drinks, as well as desserts prepared by Shining Star Catering. “The Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter is a great organization, and we wanted to provide an opportunity for people in the community to get out with their dogs, enjoy BBQ, and support the shelter,” explains Mathiesen. Other refreshments will include ice cream from Edy’s, Sno Kones and free treats for dogs from Barkville Pet Boutique.

At this year’s event, Barkville Pet Boutique will present the Muttminster Dog Show, with entries taken at Barkville or at the event. The Muttminster Dog Show will select the Best In Show Mutt in the Northland. Dogs will be divided into groups of 8-10 and ring times will be every 20 minutes starting at noon. The Best In Show will be named at approximately 1:30 pm, depending on the number of entrants. Barkville will also set up a mini-agility course for dogs, and trainer Diana Park will be on hand to give training and obedience advice.

Other activities at Butts 4 Mutts ’08 will include pet adoptions, pet photography, caricature drawings, face painting and raffles. Raffle prizes, including merchandise and gift certificates, have been donated by more than 20 local businesses. Several raffle entry stations will be set up at the event so that patrons can choose which prizes they would most like to enter to win. Raffle tickets will be available for $2 each, with one ticket included in the price of admission to Butts 4 Mutts.

Tickets to the event are $10 in advance, available at Backyard Bash BBQ Headquarters or Barkville Pet Boutique, $12.75 online at www.parkvilleshelter.com, or $12 at the door on the day of the event. Barkville Pet Boutique is located at 6325 Lewis St., Ste. 106, Parkville, MO 64152, also in the Parkville Commons Shopping Center. Ticket prices include admission, lunch, participation in activities, and one raffle entry. Kids 5 and under eat free.

The Friends of Parkville Animal Shelter, a no-kill organization established in 1999, carried out 35 adoptions its first year, increasing to over 400 adoptions in 2007. The work of the organization is carried out almost exclusively by dedicated volunteers and is financed through donations and fund raising events. Connie Wuebben, FOPAS volunteer and organizer, comments, “FOPAS is grateful to Backyard Bash and Barkville Pet Boutique for presenting this family fun event in its second year to our community and for helping the homeless animals in need at the Parkville Animal Shelter.”
